Job Description:

The Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for the daily maintenance of the lodge backup generators, light vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment, small powered equipment, attachments and any other mechanically, air / hydraulic operated equipment under the maintenance department’s inventory.  This position is based on a rotation of either 5 days on and 2 days off OR 14 days on and 7 days off rotation

·  Inspect, troubleshoot, test, maintain, repair, manufacture, overhaul, and recondition equipment powered by internal combustion engines or electricity and without limiting the foregoing, including lodge backup generators, light commercial vehicles including trailers, heavy equipment including loaders, dump trucks, skidsteers, small equipment including pumps, generators, summer / winter equipment, and attachments to light & heavy vehicles.
·  Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, generators, pumps, vehicles, machinery, pneumatic tools, following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
·  Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
·  Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
·  Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
·  Controls downtime by informing workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance. Teaching users / operators how to inspect & maintain equipment.
·  Captures time spent on tasks, materials used, within Maximo computerized maintenance management program.
·  Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by working with Inventory Clerk & checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
·  Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
·  Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
·  Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
·  Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
·  Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
·  Be able to work in a full range of environmental conditions: from comfortable shops to exterior locations where inclement weather can affect your performance of duties
·  Comfortable working independently on a frequent basis, and in a team based environment with all trades 
·  Maintain good physical condition because the work often requires considerable standing, bending, crawling, lifting, climbing, pulling and reaching. Due to the size and complexity of the equipment, safety is of prime importance.
·  Light welding and fabrication an asset
·  Proficient with computer equipment, test & diagnostic tools
·  Work with Shop Management to maintain maintenance schedules and priorities
·  Liaise with local repair shops and manufacturers when troubleshooting as needed
·  Research parts with local vendors, fill out Parts Request Sheet and turn into office, perform part queries when parts have not arrived.
·  Maintain inventory of consumable parts and reorder as required using in-house parts request process
·  Follow all MSDS requirements, maintaining and updating all MSDS sheets on a consistent basis
·  Disposal of materials, parts and or equipment in an environmental conscious manner following all environmental policies and procedures in the recycle program
·  Attend and participate in all daily toolbox meetings, filling out Field Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA) forms daily and contributing to the Behavior Based Observation (BBO) program
·  Maintains custody of shop equipment and ensures the maintenance of a clean, safe work environment; free from hazards at all times
·  Assists Equipment Operators with installations and change-outs of cutting blades, attachments, etc.
·  Assists with winter maintenance operations as required pending work load;
·  Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

·  Red Seal certification in a trade is required.
·  High school, College or University degree
·  5 years’ Experience or more
·  Light welding and fabrication an asset
