As a Tunnel Superintendent you will oversee portions of the underground tunneling operations. Reporting to the Tunnel Construction Manager you will ensure compliance with all applicable Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements.
Location:         7007 269 Road Fort St John, BC
Salary:             $275,000.00
Term:              Full time, 18 month contract
Hours:             5 days in, 2 days out, 12 hours per day

Responsibilities
  • Manage tunneling activities on-site in order to maintain targeted/scheduled production within budget
  • Provide and maintain a safe and healthy work environment through the establishment, review and communication of key performance indicators for safety, environment, operations, costs, quality, company values and expectations
  • Provide leadership in scheduled progress meetings
  • Participate in safety meetings and training
  • Evaluation of efficiency on production sites to determine adequacy of personnel, equipment and technologies used, making changes to work schedules or equipment when necessary
  • Select, train, develop and utilize the skills of supervisors, professionals, miners and support staff
  • Establish and monitor construction work schedules including “look ahead” schedules and take corrective actions
  • Conduct direct reporting employee’s performance plans and assessments, supervise and train employees, take corrective action as required
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, Provincial and local laws, particularly applicable Occupational Health & Safety Act / Construction Safety Act regulations
  • Understand best practices of job set up and management
  • Ensure compliance with various applicable tunneling and environmental regulations pertaining to construction operations
  • Supervise underground personal such as Foremen, Operators and Labourers
  • Ability to understand and work with engineer and technical drawings as well as project schedules
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by his/her supervisor

Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Works under general supervision, having contact with supervisors on a regular basis
  • Makes responsible independent decisions on normal matters related to project management
  • Capable of manging multiple subcontractors, as well as internal resources simultaneously to be able to achieve project goals
  • Goal driven approach to work
  • Ability to use stairs, ladders and climb rough terrain
  • Ability to work long hours per day in sometimes rough weather conditions
  • Walk long distances underground
  • Must be physically fit and able to work in remote camp locations
  • Outdoor work subject to extreme weather changes
Experience/ Qualifications
  • 5 years of experience in underground tunneling specific to underground concrete structures and in-situ tunnel lining
  • Technical school background or equivalent years of construction supervision experience
  • Supervisory experience working on multi-billion-dollar contracts with complex and demanding requirements, delivered in an international JV or P3 environment.
  • Experience in major dam construction projects – focusing on concrete structures delivery
  • Strong understanding and appreciation of safety management and planning
  • Strong understanding of concrete construction methods and constraints
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Computer skills, preferably MS Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
Please Note: This is a site-based position located at the Site C Dam in Fort St. John, British Columbia. Preference will be given to qualified, local candidates. However, we will also consider fly in/out candidates based out of Vancouver, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Calgary, or Edmonton. Rotational employees are required to work a 14/7 rotation; flights and camp accommodations are provided while on shift.
