Description

The Irrigation Technician ensures effective operations of irrigation equipment by completing repairs and maintenance on the irrigation system.  Reporting to the Grounds Superintendent and working as a key member of the Maintenance Team, this position works to ensure that the irrigation system working efficiently and effectively to support the goals of the club.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Completes irrigation operations, repairs and maintenance, including pump start up and shut down, repair of sprinkler heads, leaks or line breaks, and perform water audits
  • Monitors operation of satellites and adjusts controllers as weather conditions change
  • Operates maintenance equipment and performs basic equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Mixes and applies fertilizer, chemicals and wetting agents

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years relative experience and/or education in a related field (plumber, pipe fitter, sewer or water work) would be considered an asset
  • 2 years of golf course maintenance experience would be considered an asset
  • Understanding and enjoyment of the game of golf would be considered an asset
  • First Aid certificate would be considered an asset
  • Pesticide Applicator Certificate would be considered an asset
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products
  • Understanding of WHMIS principles
  • Able to communicate in a professional and courteous manner with customers and team members
  • Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interpret shift tasks from a written list left by a supervisor
  • Able to stay on task even when completing jobs that may be very routine or mundane
  • Able to manage and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced work environment
  • Able to manage and work efficiently with minimal direction and supervision

Other Requirements:

  • Clear Criminal Record Check
  • Valid BC Driver's license with acceptable Driver's Abstract
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
