POSITION SUMMARY:
Employer: MasTec Canada Inc. ("MasTec Canada" or the "Company")
MasTec Canada, in consultation with its joint venture partner, Kihew Fab-co Ltd. (“KMJV”), is seeking to employ a Mechanical Construction Superintendent for service on construction projects in the Blueberry River First Nations traditional territory. The Mechanical Construction Superintendent will be responsible for coordinating activities related to construction on project on-site with the goal to complete work ahead of schedule, within budget and specifications. The duties will vary by client and project size with varying degrees of responsibility and authority and may assist with planning or directing a whole project or just part of a project. The Mechanical Construction Superintendent must live and actively promote Mastec Canada’s core values as set out in MasTec Canada’s Code of Conduct and Business Ethics (hereafter “Kihew MasTec’s Core Values”).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate leadership in promoting overall compliance with the Company’s EH&S standards, applicable OH&S Acts, regulations and codes with all employees and subcontractors
- Develop, maintain and drive the construction schedule in conjunction with the project and operations team to ensure budgets and timelines are met
- Maintain strong working relations with client representatives, subcontractors, suppliers and labor force
- Collaborate with client/owner in order to meet cost and schedule objectives
- Provide oversight for the timely delivery, receipt, and quality of materials
- Understand project documents and convey this information to the construction workforce
- Support the Project Manager by ensuring all foremen comply with project management deliverables
- Strategically plan and implement resource requirements to meet/exceed crew productivity levels and schedule milestone dates
- Investigate and resolve contract disputes by making recommendations to management for final action
- Recommend best practice improvements for production, performance, quality and safety
- Must be able to recognize any changes to work plan and track accordingly
- Check quality of completed work and support Company quality directives
- Ensure that proper safety equipment is available and being used properly
- Ensure field process is in place to train the workforce on all safe job procedures and critical tasks
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and stakeholders to encourage repeat and referral business
- Facilitate technical and safety training and send employees to appropriate training as needed
- Supervise and assist in onboarding all assistant superintendents and project foreman
- Supervise workforces on average of 200-600 people (indirectly)
- Act as a role model for, and behave in ways that are aligned with, Kihew MasTec’s Core Values of Teamwork, Excellence, Respect, Duty, Integrity and Protect, while encouraging other to do so as well
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of experience in oilfield or industrial mechanical construction with 3+ years in a leadership capacity at the superintendent level
- Knowledge of coatings, welding, hydrotesting procedures, large equipment, civil pads
- Knowledge of Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Acorn Pipe considered an asset
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for promoting and living out Kihew MasTec’s Core Values
- Thorough and deep knowledge of mechanical construction including practices, contracts, processes and techniques in grading, welding, coating, hydrostatic testing, installation, and commission.
- Proven ability to build and maintain successful a successful spread; having a personnel network and the ability to leverage those relationships within the industry
- Understand specifications, blueprints, addendums and change orders
- Considerable knowledge of all construction tools, machinery methods and procedures
- Demonstrate leadership, led by example, motivate workers and communicate with workers, subordinates, project managers and clients
- Computer experience with Microsoft office, e-mail, SharePoint
- Ability to work well under pressure and within timelines
- Read and interpret documents like safety policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Write routine reports and correspondence
- Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with variables
- Track and communicate with Project Manager on performance of Indigenous employees and Indigenous contractors
- Be able to work with sensitivity towards Indigenous people and conscientiously within First Nations’ traditional territory (sensitivity and/or indigenous relations training will be considered an asset)
