Description

The Electrician uses building/equipment blueprints and schematics to assist them in installing, examining, testing, replacing, or repairing switches, wiring, conduits, and other devices or components on site. They are responsible for troubleshooting electrical problems, as well as repair and maintenance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications
    to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
  • Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits,
    feeders, fibre-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical
    components
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current,
    voltage and resistance following installation, replacement or repair
  • Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters,
    regulators and reactors
  • Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, industrial
    storage batteries and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical and electronic control systems
    and other related devices
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records
  • May install, maintain and calibrate industrial instrumentation and related devices.
  • Pull wire through conduits and through holes in walls and floors
  • Install brackets and hangers to support electrical equipment
  • Install, replace and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution
    equipment, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels
  • Splice, join and connect wire to fixtures and components to form circuits
  • Troubleshoot and isolate faults in electrical and electronic systems and remove and
    replace faulty components
  • Connect electrical power to audio and visual communication equipment, signalling
    devices and heating and cooling systems
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Working Conditions:

  • Must be physically fit and able to work in remote camp locations
  • Outdoor work subject to extreme weather changes
  • Must be willing to work 12 hour shifts, day and night
  • Physically able to work outdoors performing hard labour tasks
  • Must be able to work access/board equipment in areas with uneven ground or snow or soft-ground/surface water

Qualifications

Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be team player and must be willing to participate in company safety and
    production requirements
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical practices and procedures
  • Familiarity with active construction sites
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Experience with electrical systems in a construction or mining environment
  • Experience with batch plant construction and maintenance an asset
  • Able to pass any pre-access screening, including a Drug and Alcohol test
  • Experience with civil construction, earthworks and concrete are all assets
  • CSTS and other safety certifications are assets
  • Previous experience on dam construction or large scale civil projects would be
    considered an asset
